Stairlift Maintenance
Stannah Stairlifts are designed to give long and reliable service with the minimum of maintenance. Like any mechanical device, they require some routine care, and we recommend an annual service for our indoor units; twice-a-year if your stairlift is outdoors. This service includes cleaning, lubrication, testing of all the safety features, checking the batteries and the mechanical fastenings. An annual service typically takes 45 minutes to an hour.
In addition each Stannah Stairlift comes with a comprehensive warranty for your peace of mind - and your local distributor for details.
Troubleshooting
We've learned over the years that the most frequent service call is 'Working on arrival' - in other words, there's nothing wrong with the stairlift. Typically it's been inadvertently turned off or left in a position where it's designed not to work.
Before calling a service technician, try these simple steps:
- Make sure the chair is fully swiveled back into the traveling position (normally that means with its back to a wall).
- Make sure the battery charger is plugged in. If the batteries are completely flat (unusual, but it can happen), the stairlift will require about 14 hours to fully recharge).
- Make sure all the switches are turned on. These include the on/off switch on the armrest of the chair, the key-lock on the arm of the chair and the battery-isolation switch, which on a straight-rail stairlift is on the back of the carriage; on a curved rail stairlift it's on the front just below the seat cushion. The carriage is the part below the seat that contains the motor.
- Make sure that none of the safety-sensors around the footrest or the sides of the carriage are pressed in. Give them a light tap to check they are moving freely.
If none of the above solve the problem, please call your local distributor for service.
