Most stairlifts are not - if we're honest - the most stylish of devices, so a few years ago we teamed up with a top design company to produce something better. The result was the Solus and Sofia chairs, which went on to win the Golden Trophy for design at a major European exhibition. These chairs can be used for straight or curved stairs, and as well as good looks they have good features, like all-in-one folding and a control that combines up/down, on/off and a key lock all in one simple device. Take a look - we think you'll be impressed.

Using the stairlift

1. When you are not using your stairlift it can be folded against the wall to leave the room for anyone wanting to walk up or down the stairs. And if you want to keep it safe from children, you can lock it by removing the key.

What makes the Solus & Sofia special?

The Solus and Sofia have the same features, but use different upholstery to create their 'look'. In additon to the rail and motor of our straight and curved stairlifts, the Solus and Sofia chairs include:

    The control turned on
    The control turned off
    The control locked
  • Automatic folding. Just lift up an armrest and the whole seat and footrest fold up automatically. This eliminates the need to bend down to fold up the chair - nice at the bottom of the stairs, essential at the top.
  • An all-in-one control pod. The control may be on either armrest and is designed for 'non-technical' people. Just push it one way to go up the stairs, the other way to go down. In addition the tip of the control turns off the stairlift, and may be removed to lock the stairlift (sometimes helpful if there are grandchildren around).
  • A seat-load sensor. The control pod doesn't work until the user is securely seated in the chair (so it won't suddenly move as you sit down). To send a small load (such as a laundry basket), use the remotes on the landing.
  • The only seatbelt designed just for a stairlift. Instead of being tucked down by the users' hips like most stairlifts, the Solus and Sofia have a retractable seatbelt that is mounted near the tip of one armrest, and which can be operated with one hand. It simply latches into a hole on the opposite armrest.
  • Really nice upholstery. The Solus has a more contemporary look and comes in three colors of leather and two easy-clean woven fabrics. The Sofia has a more 'comfortable' look and is available in four woven fabrics or two colors of super-soft vinyl.
  • The best testing process in the industry. All Stannah stairlifts are tested at full load for the equivalent of 10 years of use, and the motor/gearbox is tested for the equivalent of 20 years. This is a robust stairlift designed to serve you well!

The points above should give you an idea that not all stairlifts are the same. Neither are staircases or people, so we would now suggest that you contact us for some more specific advice. We look forward to helping you!
