1. When you are not using your stairlift it can be folded flat against the wall, so it’s well out of the way of other stair users. A key-lock is useful if you want to keep your stairlift safe from children.

What makes the Stannah 320 outdoor stairlift special?
Stannah takes pride in making well-designed stairlifts that have features which are genuinely useful to our customers. The Model 320 includes the following:
- Batteries that are always on charge. A tough cable constantly trickle-charges the batteries with 24 volts of power so that your stairlift is always ready for use. The battery charger is the only part of the stairlift that needs to be kept dry, so it is normally installed indoors or in a garage and is plugged into a standard outlet. In the event of an outage the stairlift will typically give you 15-20 round trips on battery power alone.
- Rugged protection from the weather. The seat is made from a plastic that doesn't fade or crack in the sun, and the metal parts are double powder-coated to prevent rust. All parts of the 320 will withstand a hose delivering 3 gallons/minute from eight feet away - a serious rainstorm! Our friends in Hawaii tell us that the 320 is notable for not allowing creatures to use the warm dry inside as sleeping quarters.
- A swivel seat. At the top of the stairs the 320 can be swiveled to face onto the top landing, so that the back of the chairs blocks the stairs behind the user. This swivel uses really smooth roller-bearings to make the swivel easy to do. (This point is often overlooked by customers. It's the details that make all the difference!)
- The best testing process in the industry. All Stannah stairlifts are tested at full load for the equivalent of 10 years of use, and the motor/gearbox is tested for the equivalent of 20 years. This is a robust stairlift designed to serve you well!

Technical specifications (Model 320 - outdoor stairs)
- Weight limit: 300lbs
- Operating temperature range: 14ºF to 105ºF (-10ºC to 40ºC). Below 14ºF the chair may not lift the full weight, and the power cable becomes stiff and may not retract fully. The chair will work normally once the temperature returns above 14ºF.
- Minimum stair width: about 27" (depends on knees of user, and local codes may apply)
- Distance between armrests: 19"
- Depth of seat: 15"
- Standard seat height from bottom landing: 21"
- Standard seat height from top landing: 18"
- Space needed at the bottom of the stairs: about 27" in front of first step (but chair can be folded and sent up the stairs when not in use)
- Folded width from wall: 12.9"
- Rail protrusion at bottom landing: about 15"
- Rail protrusion at top landing: about 4", but can be installed at 0" if there is an obstruction at the top
- Width of rail: 4"
- Space taken by rail at side of stairs: typically about 7½"
- Speed: about 18'/minute (so about 45 seconds to ride up a typical staircase)
- Landing controls: hard-wired at top and bottom landing
- Battery life (stairlift): typically 3-5 years
- Service interval: every six months is recommended
- User maintenance required: none, but a wipe down with a damp cloth is OK for cleaning
- Standard safety devices:
- Seat belt: center-clasp across the lap
- Over speed governor: only required in public buildings, but we fit one on all our stairlifts
- Safety sensors: on the footrest and both sides of chair, to stop the stairlift if it touches an obstruction
- Constant battery-charging: to prevent the biggest cause of breakdowns (flat batteries)
- Key lock: under one armrest and on both landing controls
- Available options: absolutely none! (We hesitate to say 'less to go wrong', but the 320 is notably reliable.)
